Rajah & Tann named Most Innovative Law Firm in the Business of Law for new business and service delivery models

Rajah & Tann Singapore has been named Most Innovative Law Firm in the category of Business of Law - Business and Service Delivery Models - for Rajah & Tann Technologies Pte Ltd (RTT) at the Financial Times (FT) Asia Pacific Innovative Lawyers Awards, while the firm’s legal tech partner, Rajesh Sreenivasan, was recognised in the regional top 10 pioneer list of standout legal sector innovators. The event was held in Hong Kong last evening.

RTT, a separate company set up by the firm, offers multi-disciplinary solutions including data breach readiness and response, cybersecurity, a virtual law academy, as well as other legal tech services to clients. It was launched early this year to help clients meet the demands and challenges of the digital economy where big data and artificial intelligence are changing the way services and products are delivered to end consumers.

Receiving the awards on behalf of the firm, Deputy Managing Partner Rebecca Chew, said: “We are honoured to be recognised by the Financial Times for our achievements through innovation. It affirms our partners’ resolve to embrace the upside of disruption so that we can remain relevant to clients and help them maximise the potential impact of new technologies.

“We continue to learn and push ourselves to effect change. It is always a struggle to shed legacy assets and change mindsets, so these awards will encourage all of us to press on to make ourselves and our clients digitally adept and disruption ready.”

Mr Sreenivasan, Head of Rajah & Tann’s Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice, is leading the firm’s digital drive. In addition to launching RTT, Rajah & Tann has also rolled out data protection officer services to help clients tackle cyber threats and security issues.

Mr Sreenivasan said: “I am very humbled to be recognised for doing something that is very close to my heart. It is both an honour and a privilege. Truth be told, my job was made easier because of the strong commitment given by the Rajah & Tann leadership to building an innovation-driven organisation, and the enthusiastic support of our IT team and the rest of my colleagues. This award belongs as much to them.”

Now in its fifth year, the awards by the UK-based Financial Times recognises law firms behind the most transformational transactions in the region, the in-house legal teams that are adding the most value to business, and the most innovative individuals in the industry.

This year’s awards attracted 550 submissions and nominations from 65 law firms and 34 legal company teams operating in Australia, China and Hong Kong, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam.

Ranked 8th this year, Rajah & Tann Singapore was named 2016 FT Most Innovative Law Firm in ASEAN and has been listed in its top FT25 list since the inaugural award event in 2014.

Other recent awards include the Corporate Citizenship Law Firm of the Year at the ALB South East Asia Law Awards 2017, Singapore’s National Law Firm of the Year award 2017 at Chambers Asia Pacific Awards, as well as the Singapore Tax Disputes & Litigation Firm of the Year 2017 award by the International Tax Review.
