Rajah & Tann is top Singapore law firm for international arbitration

Rajah & Tann is the top Singapore law firm for international arbitration, according to a widely-followed ranking by London-based Global Arbitration Review (GAR).

Rajah & Tann is ranked 37th in this year’s list which includes 100 firms around the world but ranks only the top 41. Rajah & Tann is the only Singapore law firm ranked in the top 41 this year.

The GAR rankings were based on the number of cases handled, experience of counsel, size of claims and other qualitative and quantitative criteria. Rajah & Tann reported 38 merit hearings and 81 pending international arbitrations on its book of work with a total portfolio value of US$8.2 billion.

Lee Eng Beng, Senior Counsel and Managing Partner of Rajah & Tann, said: “We are very pleased to be ranked on GAR’s list alongside many outstanding international law firms in the world. Rajah & Tann has a long tradition of leadership in arbitration practice in Asia, and the latest ranking affirms our dominance and our determination to stay in the lead.”

Andre Yeap, Senior Counsel, the firm’s Senior Partner and the head of its international arbitration practice, added: "Given the enhanced competition in international arbitration work over the last few years, with many prestigious international law firms setting up or augmenting their own international arbitration practice in Singapore, we are particularly pleased that GAR has once again recognised Rajah & Tann as the top Singapore firm for international arbitration practice in Singapore and the region. Indeed, over the last six years, according GAR's ranking, where we have been consistently ranked within GAR's top 41, Rajah & Tann is Asia's top international arbitration practice."

GAR is reputed as the leading news provider of international arbitration practices. Its rankings are one of the most respected and widely-watched for the international legal fraternity partly because of the rigorous process in which the magazine editors went about collating information for their rankings.

Rajah & Tann has the only standalone arbitration practice in Singapore. The firm has been involved in arbitrations in Asia and Europe - as well as appearing often in the Singapore courts. The firm’s clients and cases cover a wide range of businesses such as construction and engineering business, hospitality, telecommunications, energy, mining and governments.

In addition to its 27-lawyer international arbitration practice, Rajah & Tann has extensive industry specific arbitration expertise within a number of practice groups including the Shipping, Insolvency & Restructuring, Telecoms Media and Technology, Insurance & Reinsurance, Major Projects & Infrastructure and Commercial Litigation practice groups.

Rajah & Tann is the largest full-service law firm in Southeast Asia. In the last three years, the firm has expanded in the region, adding new offices to its network. It has regional offices in China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar as well as associate firms in Malaysia, Cambodia and Indonesia.
