Ong Chee Kwan accepts JC appointment, Yon See Ting to be sole Managing Partner of Christopher & Lee Ong

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, 3 May 2019 – Christopher & Lee Ong (CLO), a member firm of Rajah & Tann Asia, today announced that Yon See Ting will be sole Managing Partner from 3 May 2019 following the departure of Joint Managing Partner Ong Chee Kwan who has been called to the Bench.

Mr Ong has accepted the appointment of Judicial Commissioner of the High Court of Malaya. John Mathew who has over 30 years’ experience and has an active practice in general civil and banking litigation, will take over as head of dispute resolution.

Chee Kwan is an acknowledged leader in shipping law and is also highly regarded for his strong expertise and experience in commercial disputes. “See Ting is a very accomplished practitioner, and has shown formidable leadership skills as well as a deep commitment to bringing both the firm and the network forward. She will continue to build and strengthen the firm and take it to the forefront of all established and emerging areas of legal practice in Malaysia.”

Ms Yon has over 25 years of experience as a corporate lawyer in Malaysia focusing on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and competition law. She is ranked in Chambers & Partners for both Corporate/M&A and Competition and listed in Global Competition Review 100 for Competition. She is also a member of Bursa’s Listing Committee, a committee of the Board of Bursa Malaysia with oversight on compliance with the listing requirements.

Ms Yon said Mr Mathew’s years of experience and active practice, focussing on general civil litigation and banking litigation, will put him in good stead to build on the firm’s solid foundation in litigation.

Mr Mathew was named among the Commended External Counsel of the Year 2018 in Malaysia by the In-House Community and was recognised for his knowledge in different areas of law and for being meticulous in his legal analysis.

He sits on the Board of Malaysia Smelting Corp Berhad, one of the world’s largest producer of tin metal and tin based products. He is a panel arbitrator with the Asian International Arbitration Centre and was a member of the Compensation Committee of Bursa Malaysia.
