As we step into 2026, we would like to present a review of the achievements and highlights, memorable events and moments, and challenges in the Rajah & Tann Asia network over the past year. We look back on 2025 with pride – we had a successful year and are deeply grateful for and touched by the support and confidence shown by our clients and business partners in 2025. Our practices, capabilities and profile as the most integrated legal network in this part of the world continue to strengthen, and we were happy to see the RTA community grow in maturity, confidence and identity.
RTA member firms gained industry recognition in multiple forums. Rajah & Tann Singapore shone at the Asia Legal Awards, winning Southeast Asian Law Firm of the Year, Transport Firm of the Year, and Strategic Legal Operations Team of the Year. At the ALB Southeast Asia Law Awards, the Singapore firm was named Singapore Law Firm of the Year, Data Privacy and Protection Law Firm of the Year and Matrimonial and Family Law Firm of the Year. In Malaysia, Christopher & Lee Ong earned Law Firm of the Year at the Malaysia Law Awards, while Assegaf Hamzah & Partners was crowned Indonesia Law Firm of the Year at both the IFLR Asia Pacific Awards and asialaw Awards. In Vietnam, Rajah & Tann LCT Lawyers received the Client Choice Honourable Mention at the asialaw Awards. The strength of our cross‑border practices was affirmed at the ALB China Law Awards 2025, where we won China Practice Asian Firm of the Year, and at the India Legal Awards, where our South Asia Desk won Asian Law Firm of the Year – Indian Practice.
Our regional dominance also reached new heights in 2025. The ALB Top 50 rankings placed Rajah & Tann Singapore, Christopher & Lee Ong, and Assegaf Hamzah & Partners as the largest firms in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia respectively – affirming the strength and depth of our footprint and our unmatched concentration of legal talent, support and resources in these key ASEAN jurisdictions. We were involved in some of the most exciting, intense and high-visibility transactions and matters. On top of client work, RTA member firms found the time and capacity to organise many leadership thought events and actively participated in international conferences and summits.
For our people, the high point of the year was the RTA Lawyers’ Retreat in Phuket in October 2025, which was attended by 700 of our lawyers and legal professionals. The 3 days of discussions, bonding activities, forging of new relationships and reinforcement of old ones, with plenty of feasting and entertainment, will no doubt be fondly remembered for years to come. 2025 also saw many new partners and lawyers joining the RTA community – we welcomed new talent across the network, in particular, strengthening our disputes, corporate and finance capabilities in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Sadly, 2025 was also a year of loss for RTA. We mourned the passing of 2 key leaders in RTA, Patrick Ang and Ibrahim Sjarief Assegaf. Patrick was one of two Vice-Chairpersons of RTA and the former Managing Partner of Rajah & Tann Singapore. He was not only a towering figure in restructuring and insolvency law but had also been part of the heart and soul of the Singapore firm for 30 years. Ibrahim was a luminary in Indonesia’s legal landscape, particularly in the areas of project finance, banking, and infrastructure and the much-respected former Managing Partner of Assegaf Hamzah & Partners. Both were pioneers of RTA and their thought leadership, integrity, commitment and values helped shape our regionalisation journey and inspire generations of new lawyers in RTA. We pay tribute to their valuable contributions to RTA, and will miss them dearly.
I hope you will enjoy this Review. We look forward to partnering with you in the year ahead.
