Rajah & Tann advises on landmark Myanmar financing transaction

Rajah & Tann has advised Singapore company Asiatech Energy Pte Ltd (“Asiatech”) for the financing of a gas-fired combined cycle power plant. This is the first of its kind to be undertaken by a Singapore company in Mawlamyine, Mon State, Myanmar. Asiatech was commissioned to develop a 230MW power plant by Myanmar Lighting IPP Co. Ltd., a Myanmar company which will own and operate the power plant. United Overseas Bank Limited was the lender in the transaction.

The Rajah & Tann team was co-led by banking partner Angela Lim and partner Chester Toh, who co-heads the Firm's Myanmar Practice. Associates Claudia Petrat and Sarah Ooi supported the transaction, working alongside Associate Director Kenneth Lim, who is based in Yangon.
