On 25 November 2024, we celebrated the grand opening of our Shenzhen Representative Office at Raffles Shenzhen with over 300 guests, including government officials, industry leaders, clients, and partners, some of whom specially flew in to join us for this momentous occasion.
“Our journey into China began over 21 years ago with our Shanghai representative office, led by Linda Qiao, laying the foundation for an enduring and trusted presence. Now, under the leadership of Kian Heong Hew, we open our second representative office in Qianhai, reinforcing our commitment to growing and supporting Asia’s rise on the world stage. It will tap into our strengths in dispute resolution, construction, and cross-border advisory, aligning with Qianhai’s ambition to be an international arbitration centre. Qianhai’s strategic location, adjacent to Hong Kong and its blend of innovation and tradition, will be an ideal base for our new chapter.” shared Eng Beng Lee, SC, Chairman of Rajah & Tann Asia.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our guest of honour, Edwin Tong SC, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, and Second Minister for Law (Singapore), for gracing the event. His insightful fireside chat with Kim Huat Chia, Regional Head, Corporate and Transactional Practice, Rajah & Tann Singapore, delved into China and Southeast Asia economic cooperation and Singapore’s unique role as a bridge between these regions.
We would also like to thank our distinguished speakers for providing their views on strengthening ties between China and Southeast Asia – Wang Jinxia, Professor Huang Jin, Dr Liu Xiaochun, Charlene Chang, Lu Shubiao, Iain Seow, Terry Hu, Kun Chen, Huang Guoyong, Gloria Lim, and Wee Meng Chuan.
Rounding the night, we enjoyed a special performance by our talented lawyers, Wanchun Li, Senior Associate from our Shanghai office, and Justin Chua, Partner from our Malaysia office (Christopher & Lee Ong, a member firm of Rajah & Tann Asia), demonstrating the strength of collaboration across the Rajah & Tann Asia network.
As we embark on this exciting journey, we stay committed to strengthening our presence in China and forging even stronger relationships with Chinese businesses venturing into Southeast Asia. Together, we will navigate the intricacies of international business, fostering understanding and collaboration across borders. We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead!
