Successfully acted for the Owners of the tanker vessel “Hafnia Leo” and their insurers in an incident that occurred at Fujairah Oil Tanker Terminal in late 2022.
The case involved complex calculations of loss of use of the vessel and of profits sustained as a result of the incident, in the context of the Middle East and connected tanker markets. There were multiple jurisdictions engaged, including Singapore, Malaysia, and the UAE. Notwithstanding attempts by the opposing vessel (which was suspected to belong to a “dark fleet”) to evade tracking, with close monitoring of her movements, we eventually obtained her arrest and commenced formal proceedings. This culminated in a resolution of the matter in the client’s favour with over 90% recovery within a relatively short period of time. The matter value was approximately US$2.5 million.
Partners Kendall Tan and Max Lim from the Shipping Practice led the case.
