Acted for the Owners of “SC Taurus” (a products tanker) and their insurers following a collision incident that occurred between the vessel and the “Avatar Triumph” (an offshore support AHTS vessel) near to Kaoshsiung, Taiwan, just around the onset of COVID-19. The matter value was approximately US$3.5 million.
Proceedings were commenced in Singapore and was fixed for a week-long trial before the Singapore High Court. This multi-million dollar, cross-jurisdictional case spanned Singapore, Taiwan as well as China. It concerned various technical maritime issues, as well complex loss calculations surrounding the offshore wind market and renewables sector in Taiwan (including relevant local rules and industry practices) coupled with the prevailing COVID-19 situation that affected the economy at the time.
