Rajah & Tann Singapore contributed the Singapore chapter of the Singapore-China Joint Data Compliance Guide: Practical Handbook (“Guide“), a bilingual guide jointly developed by the Asian Business Law Institute (“ABLI“) and the Shenzhen Data Exchange.
In today’s interconnected digital word, data has emerged as a fundamental force – transforming industries, reshaping how businesses operate, and enhancing productivity at every level. As the influence of data expands, so too does the necessity for businesses to understand and comply with evolving legal and regulatory frameworks.
Authored by leading data protection experts from Singapore and China, the Guide provides a systematic and practical framework for cross-border data governance in these two countries, discussing in easy-to-understand format each country’s data protection laws and regulations. It is designed to help businesses navigate cross-border data challenges and ensure robust compliance in both jurisdictions, equipping them with practical insights, essential legal requirements, recommended best practices, and illustrative real-world case studies.
The Guide is an invaluable tool for businesses operating in, or collaborating with, entities based in Singapore or China, as well as for those looking to broaden their footprint in the digital economy.
Launched at the 2nd Singapore-China Digital Policy Dialogue in Chongqing, China, the Guide’s significance was further highlighted when it was cited by Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How during the 21st Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation, the premier platform for fostering government-to-government collaboration between Singapore and China.
The Singapore chapter of the Guide was contributed by Partner Benjamin Cheong (Deputy Head, Technology, Media & Telecommunications), Senior Associates Yu Peiyi and Wang Rui, Associate Megan Wong, and Practice Trainees Pamela Low, Nicholas Lim and Darren Ong.
