Jeremy has significant experience in a broad range of commercial litigation and arbitration disputes, with a consistent track record of successful outcomes for his clients, including securing early victories for his clients without the need for expensive trials.

He is skilled in formulating effective strategies to resolve difficult and complex commercial cases, having developed expertise for over 16 years with Rajah & Tann and working extensively with several Senior Counsel and the firm’s best minds on many high-stakes disputes. He strives to find the cleanest solution for his clients.

Jeremy’ practice is diverse, often involving cross-border elements, foreign litigants, and foreign law. Over the years, he has developed a focus on corporate and shareholder disputes, civil fraud, emerging technology, and real estate litigation (transactional disputes, landlord tenant, caveats, easements, injunctive relief, trusts, among others).

Outside of his disputes practice, Jeremy dedicates his time to help nurture the next generation of advocates; he was an advocacy trainer for the Singapore Bar Exams from 2015 – 2020 and thereafter advocacy tutor for the Trial Advocacy module in the National University of Singapore from 2021 to present. Jeremy also volunteers in pro bono initiatives organised by Pro Bono SG.

EXPERIENCE

  • Successfully struck out the majority of a claimant’s claims of conspiracy and fraudulent misrepresentation (among others) in the High Court
  • Successfully acted in an arbitration under Singapore International Arbitration Centre involving a cryptocurrency dispute and obtained an award granting all claims sought by clients and substantial cost orders against the respondent
  • Successfully obtained an urgent injunction in High Court restraining the forfeiture of leased land which then resulted in settlement of the dispute on terms favourable to the client
  • Successfully struck out all of Claimants’ claims against financial institution client on the basis of res judicata
  • Instructing counsel in ongoing high-stakes major shareholder litigation case in the Malaysian courts involving a large group of companies
  • Successfully acted for claimant in the High Court who was defrauded and obtained judgment on all claims asserted, including conspiracy; also obtained substantial costs of the action that is higher than usual. Successfully resisted defendant’s appeal: Epoch Minerals Pte Ltd v Raffles Asset Management (S) Pte Ltd and others [2021] SGHC 288; Gangadhara Brhmendra Srikanth Marojuv Epoch Minerals Pte Ltd [2022] SGHC(A) 35
  • Led High Court case where we acted for the claimant to wind up a company on the ground that the directors of the company had acted in their own interests rather than in the interests of the members. The matter settled on terms favourable to the client
  • Successfully struck out all claimant’s claims for land encroachment against the client in the High Court, which involved a novel point of law: Management Corporation Strata Title Plan No 901 v Lian Tat Huat Trading Pte Ltd [2018] SGHC 270
  • Successfully struck out all claimant’s claims against financial institution client
  • Successfully acted for Australian companies in obtaining judgment on liability in cross-border joint venture dispute involving a claim for over US$800 million: BCBC Singapore Pte Ltd and another v PT Bayan Resources TBK and another [2016] 4 SLR 1; [2016] SGHC(I) 1; BCBC Singapore Pte Ltd and another v PT Bayan Resources TBK and another [2017] 5 SLR 77
  • Successfully acted for ST Microelectronics Asia Pacific in defending claims of fraudulent misrepresentation and conspiracy (among others) in the High Court: PT Sandipala Arthaputrav STMicroelectronics Asia Pacific Pte Ltd and others [2017] SGHC 191
  • Successfully acted for Standard Chartered Bank in defending investor claims arising out of the Madoff scandal: Tradewaves Ltd and others v Standard Chartered Bank and another suit [2017] SGHC 93
