Siew Shiong is a Partner in the Corporate Practice Group in Christopher & Lee Ong.

Siew Shiong was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in March 2018. Her primary areas of practice include mergers & acquisitions and corporate commercial advisory. She has advised a diverse portfolio of local and international clients across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, reinsurance, consumer & retail, and financial advisory services.

She also provides day-to-day legal support to clients on corporate and commercial matters, including advice on the Malaysian Companies Act 2016, employment issues, joint ventures, as well as procurement, supply, and customer contracts.

In September 2024, Siew Shiong was seconded to Sojitz Corporation, one of Japan’s largest sōgō shōsha (general trading houses), in Tokyo for a year. During her secondment, she served as an in-house legal counsel in both the Energy & Healthcare Division and the Food, Beverage & Consumer Division, working closely with the company’s legal and business teams on cross-border M&A projects in jurisdictions including India, Thailand, Australia, and Uzbekistan.

Mergers & Acquisitions

  • Advised a British insurer in its proposed acquisition of majority interests in two insurance broking businesses based in Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan.
  • Advised Sumitomo Corporation on its proposed acquisition of a steel manufacturing company in Malaysia.
  • Advised a Japanese manufacturer of power receiving and distribution equipment and switchboards on its proposed acquisition of shares in a Malaysian switchboard manufacturing company.
  • Advised a Japanese construction materials and machinery rental and sales company on its proposed acquisition of a Malaysian steel products manufacturing company.
  • Advised Sojitz Corporation, a Japanese sogo shosha, on a proposed joint venture with Culture Convenience Club Co. Ltd. and Pavilion Trading Enterprise Sdn Bhd to establish the “Tsutaya Bookstore” franchise in Malaysia.
  • Represented multiple sellers in the sale of 100% equity interest in Lypometal Holdings Sdn. Bhd. to Dymon Asia. Lypometal is one of the largest providers of specialized and high-value metal fabrication and stamping solutions.
  • Advised a Japanese manufacturer of specialty papers, thermal papers, adhesive materials, and film products, on its proposed share acquisition of a Singapore-based die-cut parts producer with Malaysian subsidiaries.
  • Advised a Chinese multinational power generation and electrical equipment manufacturer on its proposed acquisition of a Malaysian private company for the development of a combined-cycle gas turbine power plant.
  • Advised a Chinese semiconductor material supplier, on its proposed acquisition of a Malaysia-based electronic chemical trading company.

Advisory

  • Advised a global tech giant known for designing, manufacturing, and selling premium consumer electronics on regulatory compliance for the launch of its first retail store in Malaysia.
  • Advised a Japanese electronics and semiconductor company on employment pass applications and other immigration and employment matters.
  • Assisted in advising and drafting legal opinion on the legality and enforceability of several supply agreements.
  • Assisted in advising and drafting legal opinion on the legality of the arrangement of acquisition of lands in Malaysia.
  • Advising and drafting legal opinion on the current position of the classification by borrower of a term loan with a repayment on demand clause.
  • Advising on the legal implications of retrenchment, unfair dismissal, and employee arrangements arising from business transfers.
