In Loving Memory of Patrick Ang
Vice Chairman, Rajah & Tann Asia, Former Managing Partner, Rajah & Tann Singapore
It is with profound sadness that Rajah & Tann Asia announces the passing of Patrick Ang, Vice Chairman of Rajah & Tann Asia and former Managing Partner of Rajah & Tann Singapore.
Patrick was not only a towering figure in the legal community, he was the heart of our firm. Over his 30-year career, he shaped not only the legal landscape in Singapore and the region but also the culture and values that define Rajah & Tann today. His brilliance in corporate restructuring and insolvency, unwavering integrity, and deep care for people made him a respected leader and a beloved mentor. Many clients knew him not just as a trusted advisor, but as someone who genuinely cared about their business, their challenges, and their success.
Patrick was at the helm of Rajah & Tann’s regionalisation drive, a decade-long journey that took hard work, perseverance, an entrepreneurial and partnering spirit. The strength and esteem that Rajah & Tann Asia now enjoys is in no small part due to the pivotal and foundational work of pioneers like him.
Recognised as one of Singapore’s foremost legal minds, Patrick advised on numerous landmark restructuring cases. His inimitable blend of legal acumen with commercial insight earned him a Band 1 ranking in Chambers Asia Pacific for 18 consecutive years. Internationally, he was named a Global Elite Thought Leader by Lexology Index (formerly Who’s Who Legal), an honour conferred on only the top two percent of practitioners worldwide. He was also the only Singaporean and the fourth Asian to be inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy.
As Managing Partner of Rajah & Tann Singapore from 2019 to March 2025, Patrick led with clarity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. During his tenure, the firm grew in strength and reputation, expanded its footprint, and fostered a culture of innovation and transformation, sharpening the firm’s operations and helping businesses adapt to an increasingly digital and data-driven economy. His leadership was recognised with the “Managing Partner of the Year” award at the ALB SE Asia Law Awards in both 2024 and 2025, a reflection of the respect he commanded across the legal community.
Patrick was deeply committed to mentorship and believed in lifting others as he rose. He guided and inspired generations of young lawyers, many of whom now hold leadership roles within the firm. His influence extended beyond the firm, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he played a key role in shaping Singapore’s legal response as part of the committee that drafted the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Bill. For his contributions, he was awarded the Public Service Star (COVID-19) by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Those who knew Patrick will remember his sharp intellect, his quiet strength, and his genuine warmth. He led not just with strategy, but with a caring heart.
To our clients who worked closely with Patrick, we understand how deeply this news may affect you. Please rest assured that your matters will be seamlessly transitioned to other senior partners and lawyers within the firm. These transitions are being carefully managed to uphold the high standards of service that Patrick exemplified.
Patrick’s passing is a profound loss to all of us. We will honour his memory by continuing to serve with the same dedication, integrity, and heart that he exemplified every day. His values, leadership, and dedication to the law will remain at the heart of Rajah & Tann Singapore.
