Rajah & Tann Singapore Wins Landmark Case: DDI v DDJ [2024] SGHC 68

Acted successfully for the respondents before the Singapore High Court in DDI v DDJ [2024] SGHC 68. The Singapore High Court dismissed an application to set aside an arbitral award, highlighting the high threshold required to prove breaches of natural justice. The case involved disputes over jewellery ownership, celebrity endorsements and cryptocurrency transactions. The Court dismissed allegations of bias and procedural errors, noting in particular the lack of any evidence of prejudice to the applicant. The decision reaffirms the Singapore courts’ approach of reading awards fairly and holistically, and emphasises the need to demonstrate tangible harm from any alleged breach of natural justice. Partner Devathas Satianathan from the International Arbitration practice, alongside Senior Associate Walter Yeo and Associate Sandi Tun led the case.
