Rajah & Tann Wins Prestigious Top National Law Firm Award

Chambers recognises firm’s pre-eminence in Singapore

SINGAPORE, 1 March 2013 – Rajah & Tann has won the Singapore National Law Firm of the Year award by UK-based Chambers, the world's leading publisher of guides to global rankings in the legal profession.

Commenting on the award, Chambers noted that "Rajah & Tann balances a top-notch litigation and arbitration practice with an increasingly strong offering for transactional work. In one highlight, the firm defended Lehman Brothers Singapore in proceedings relating to its S$10 billion secured note programme. The firm also merits particular mention for its shipping, TMT, and restructuring and insolvency expertise. In addition to domestic success, the firm has achieved substantial regional growth in recent years, with overseas teams based in China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Laos."

Lee Eng Beng S.C., Managing Partner, Rajah & Tann, said: “This is a momentous occasion for Rajah & Tann and we are honoured to be recognised as the top national law firm by Chambers for the work we’ve done for our clients.

“On behalf of all my colleagues in Singapore and the region, I would like to thank our clients and business partners for their support over the years without which we would not have come this far in our professional achievements. We will continue to build on this accolade.”

The Chambers’ top national law firm awards recognise law firms’ pre-eminence in key practice areas and reflect notable achievements over the past 12 months including outstanding work, impressive strategic growth and excellence in client service. The award is given to the leading national and international law firm in each country surveyed, based on research for the 2013 edition of Chambers’ Asia-Pacific.

Mr Lee noted that many of Rajah & Tann’s clients have come to value the firm not just for its high calibre work but for having the largest regional network among Singapore practices. “More and more of our clients are conducting cross-border transactions or have ventured into the region using Singapore as a base. They like their lawyers to have on-ground presence as well as access to expertise in some of Asia’s emerging markets.”

In January this year, Rajah & Tann strengthened its Indo-China presence with new offices in Cambodia and Myanmar, adding to a regional network that includes Singapore, China, Lao PR, Vietnam, Thailand, as well as associate offices in Malaysia and Indonesia, and regional desks focussing on Japan and South Asia. It was also ranked as the largest law firm in Singapore and South East Asia in the same month by the Asian Lawyer, a regional edition of the American Lawyer.
